National identity issues discussed at the RA Ministry of Diaspora

On February 11, Vahagn Vardanyan, the Head of High School and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Coordinator at Hillside World Academy in Singapore (formerly known as Chinese International School) delivered a lecture on national identity issues for the staff of the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan attended the lecture. Mr Vardanyan presented his study on national identity through a slide show and conducted an analysis in which he compared the pillars of the Armenian national identity with those of the identity as a concept. In particular, Vahagn Vardanyan touched upon the problems facing the Armenian communities of Australia and the region, Armenia-Diaspora relations and the relations within the Diaspora and attached importance to the issues on the Diaspora’s engagement in life in Armenia. The speaker particularly gave a comparative description of the Armenian communities of Melbourne and Sydney, as well as the trends and perspectives of development. The lecture was followed by an active debate.
RA Deputy Minister of Diaspora Vahagn Melikyan expressed gratitude to the speaker for his interesting lecture and the fruitful discussion.
Vahagn Vardanyan has obtained a Master of Business Administration from the American University of Armenia and a Master of International Affairs from the Missouri State University. Since 2005, he has been living and working in East Asia, has been teaching under the IB Diploma Programme, as well as conducting his doctoral research on national identity in the field of political geography at the National University of Singapore.
