Vilen Shatvoryan: “Denial of genocide is the continuation of it”
Recognition of the Armenian Genocide is very important for the 500,000-member Armenian community of Ukraine. This is a very sensitive issue for the Ukrainian-Armenians. This is what President of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine, People’s Deputy Vilen Shatvoryan mentioned.
“The major part of the current Armenian Diaspora was formed as a consequence of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in the Ottoman Empire…What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger, and those in whom the blood of Armenians flows will remember and will do everything possible to see the victory of justice. Justice must be achieved without hurting the country that has received and has given the opportunity to live and raise children.
Recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide are first and foremost a tribute to the victims and a way of preventing such events from taking place in the future.
By presenting the draft law to the Supreme Rada, we anticipate the support of our partners, that is, the People’s Deputies…Unfortunately, the consequences of the Genocide still haven’t been eliminated, and we must make the maximum efforts to achieve a fair solution to the Armenian Cause. We need to understand that denial of genocide is the continuation of it,” said Vilen Shatvoryan, reports Analitika.at.ua.
On June 6th, a draft law on recognition of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in the Ottoman Empire was submitted to the Supreme Rada of Ukraine by Deputies Vilen Shatvoryan (Party of Regions) and Arsen Avakov (“Batkivshchina”).
