Cilicia patriarch thanks Cypriot parliament for Genocide denial penalization

Catholicos Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia has thanked the Cypriot legislators for the passage of the law criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial.

He has shared a message on Facebook, praising the move as a very bold decision aimed to protect justice.

“It came as a great happiness for us to know that on the occasion of the Armenian Genocide centennial anniversary, the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus made a unanimous historic decision, adopting a law that defines the Armenian Genocide denial as a crime. We will never forget that the Cypriot Parliament was the second in the world to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide in 1975.”

“On this remarkable occasion, we wish to extend our profound gratitude and high appraisal to the Parliament of Cyprus for the historic decision. This bold decision is the tangible expression of the Republic of Cyprus solid commitment to justice and human rights.”
