Armenian Scouts’ Day event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

On February 22, the Homenetmen Almelo Chapter organized an event devoted to Armenian Scouts’ Day at the Armenian Apostolic Church of Almelo.

Hasmik Ohanyan gave opening remarks on behalf of the Homenetmen Almelo Chapter. The attendees respected the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide with a moment of silence, after which the scouts performed the national anthem of the Republic of Armenia. Among those attending the event were RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Netherlands Dzyunik Aghajanyan, spiritual pastor of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Almelo, Father Mashtots Baghdasaryan, members of the ARF-D Aram Manukyan Committee, as well as members of various Armenian community organizations and several guests.

Masis Poghosyan gave a lecture, which was followed by poems recited by scouts Shahan Vardanyan, Roza Pavagyan and Armen Avetisyan. Jack Ter-Ghazaryan performed the song “Adanayi Voghbe” (Tragedy of Adana), and Razmik Aramyan read the letter “Letter to My Turkish Peer” by 12th grade student of Grigor Zohrab School N 43 of Yerevan Arpi Petrosyan (read the letter here-ed.).

In her speech, RA Ambassador to the Netherlands Dzyunik Aghajanyan congratulated the gathered on Armenian Scouts’ Day and called on everyone to fight together for the victory of the Armenian Cause.

The event included performances of national and patriotic songs by singer Tigran Hovhannisyan.

In his closing speech, Sevan Gorgisyan expressed gratitude to those who hadn’t spared any effort to organize this beautiful event.

At the end, bowls of the already traditional lentil soup made by the Women’s Union were distributed to the guests after being blessed by Father Mashtots.
