Grosmeister Grigor Mkhitaryan wins third place at Brazilian chess tournament
As reported on Armchess website, grosmeister Grigor Mkhitaryan scored 7.5 points out of the possible 11 points and won third prize at the chess tournament that ended in Juan Pesoa, Brazil. Grosmeister Rafael Leitao became the champion with 9.5 points, Artsakhpress.am reports.
Grigor Mkhitaryan was born in 1986 to a Brazilian-Armenian mother and Lebanese-Armenian father. He attended the Armenian school in San Paolo and started learning how to play chess at the age of 7. Later, he trained with a coach and participated in the San Paolo state championship for four consecutive years, winning 22nd place. Mkhitaryan is a former Brazilian champion (2012) and has been a grosmeister since 2010. He is also a member of Brazil’s national chess team.
