RA Prime Minister: “The government won’t tolerate groundless inflation”

The Government of the Republic of Armenia held today a session moderated by  RA Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, as the press service of the RA Government reports.

The Prime Minister began the session by briefly touching upon the situation in the financial market. “I would like to report that yesterday I had a meeting with representatives of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, as well as with representatives of the corresponding government agencies and economic entities. Our international partners fully support Armenia’s actions aimed at stabilizing the financial market amid the sharp shifts in the exchange rate that are due to external shocks. We are noticing a trend in the stabilization of the financial market yesterday afternoon and today, and I’m certain that it will continue. However, we’re concerned about the high marginal rates at exchange points and certain processes taking place in the consumer market. Yesterday, there was a clear rise in the prices of sugar, flour and several widely used products. I suggest that Mr. Shaboyan to have the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition conduct an in-depth study on the sales of these products and provide me with information on a daily basis. I urge you to treat the misuse very strictly. The government won’t tolerate groundless inflation.”

The Prime Minister assigned the RA Minister of Health to focus on the situation in the drug market and assigned the corresponding authorities to follow up on the prices to understand what’s going on in the field of pharmaceutics.

The government approved the agenda and began to discuss the issues at hand.
