There are more births than deaths in Artsakh. In addition, there are more people coming to Artsakh than leaving.
This is yet another unprecedented rise in the number of marriages following thefamous “Grand Wedding” in 2008. The head of the Stepanakert territorial division for the registration of civil status acts records that there were 507 marriages between January and June, compared to 307 in the same period last year. The growth rate is for Artsakh as a whole.
Compared to January-October 2013, the number of marriages registered between January and October of 2014 has increased by more than 60 percent. The National Statistical Service has already recapped the main indicators of the demographic situation based on calculations done between the months of January and October of 2014.
There were 2,103 births and 1,104 deaths registered in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic between the months of January and October of 2014. The rate of natural increase is positive and makes up 999 people. Moreover, compared to the previous year, there are more births and fewer deaths. Statisticians receive information about people coming to and leaving the republic, and based on the information, there are more people coming to the republic than leaving.
The one thing that hasn’t changed is how the people of Artsakh prefer to name their newborns. There are no top ten names for newborns. The names most frequently given to newborn boys this year is David, Tigran, Narek and Gor, and the names Ani, Maneh, Nareh and Mariam are the names that are most frequently given to newborn girls.
