In the frames of the Y-work for Peace Pan-Armenian Student Program being carried out ahead of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, members of the World Armenian Youth Network (WostAYN) organized a flashmob in Budapest that brought together 60 young people from more than 25 countries around the world, Astghik Avetisyan reports from Budapest.
The youth held hands and formed the Forget-Me-Not (symbol of the Centennial) in the yard of the European Youth Center of the Council of Europe. They were all wearing shirts released by WostAYN and U-Com and with the words “Recognize and Condemn the Armenian Genocide” on them.
“We didn’t select the day by chance. It was on November 22, 1920 that U.S. President Woodrow Wilson announced the Arbitrary Verdict determining the border between Turkey and Armenia,” President of WostAYN Atom Mkhitaryan said in his speech.
The young Armenians, who are spread across the globe and had gathered in Budapest after responding to the call of WostAYN, assert that the 22nd of November will become the day of restoration of justice, the nation’s claims and restoration of the violated rights of the Armenian people.
Among the participants of the flashmob were participants of the Y-work for Peace Pan-Armenian Youth Program, which was launched with the support of the Council of Europe on 17 November, as well as young foreigners.
WostAYN was founded as an international non-governmental organization in 2006 and now consolidates 32 Armenian organizations in 18 countries around the world.
