Turkish Deputy PM considers the Armenian Diaspora main obstacle for normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations

Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Yalchn Akdogan answered foreign journalists’ questions during a conference hosted by the Turkish Radio and Television Company and even answered questions related to Armenia and the Armenians.

According to “Hayern Aysor”, citing Ermenihaber.am, when asked what actions Turkey will be taking ahead of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, Akdogan said there is serious “misinformation” regarding the Armenian Cause.  According to the Turkish official, Turkey has to carry out more lobbying and put “public diplomacy” at work.

Akdogan mentioned that Azerbaijan is also sensitive to the Armenian Cause and emphasizes the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Akdogan also touched upon the Armenian Diaspora, saying that Turkey has to make efforts to normalize relations with the Armenians in order to help the Armenians in trouble. According to him, the Armenian Diaspora is not too concerned about the fact that people in Armenia are in poor conditions and that Armenia’s economy is in a downfall.

The Turkish official, who repeats Azerbaijan’s statement about people starving in Armenia, considered the Armenian Diaspora the main obstacle for the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations, but didn’t forget to emphasize the factor of Azerbaijan as the “victim”.
