Czech MP condemns bombing of Holy Martyrs Church in Deir ez-Zor

On October 20, Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic with Armenia Robin Bionis sent a letter to Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan. As reported by the Department of Public Relations and Relations with Media of the RA National Assembly to “ArmenPress”, in the letter the Czech Deputy touched upon the barbarous acts perpetrated by the “Islamic State” terrorist group against the Holy Martyrs Complex of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Deir ez-Zor.
Strictly condemning the act on behalf of himself and on behalf of his colleagues, Robin Bionis mentioned that he is shocked by such intolerable acts against the complex dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The deputy has expressed his deep sympathy with the Armenian people and has voiced hope that the international community will be able to prevent the “Islamic State” terrorist group from advancing towards the region.
On September 21 at 11:30, the terrorists of the “Islamic State of Iraq and Levant” bombed the Holy Martyrs Church of Deir ez-Zor where the relics of victims of the Armenian Genocide are contained. Rumor has it that Turkey must be held accountable for the crime since it not only supports the attackers, but provides those injured from the bombing with treatment at hospitals in the country.
The Armenian side has disseminated statements condemning the act. The opening of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex and the consecration of the Holy Martyrs Church were held in 1991 by Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Karekin II, and on 24 April 2002, Catholicos Aram I declared it a place for all Armenians to gather, reports “ArmenPress”.
