Cross-stone dedicated to Armenian Genocide martyrs to be placed in the State of Colorado

A cross-stone dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide will be placed in Denver, Colorado. This is what Executive Director of the Youth Foundation of Armenia Alexander Ter-Hovakimyan said in an interview with “ArmenPress”.

“The idea of placing a cross-stone was born in 2012 when I made a business trip to the United States and learned about this intention from the members of the Armenian community of Colorado,” Alexander Ter-Hovakimyan.

According to Ter-Hovakimyan, he accepted the Armenian community’s suggestion to place a cross-stone with pleasure and expressed commitment to prepare the cross-stone in Armenia. “We distributed labor, and I took charge of preparing the cross-stone. We wanted to have the cross-stone be prepared in Armenia and sent to Denver,” Ter-Hovakimyan informed, adding that the official opening of the cross-stone will be held on April 24, 2015.

“I believe we shouldn’t link this directly to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide because I wouldn’t like us to focus on the Centennial and forget about everything when it’s over. We must always keep the memory of the victims alive,” he added.

Alexander Ter-Hovakimyan said it was worth mentioning that the government of Colorado is the first of the state governments of the United States to adopt a proclamation to declare April 24th the Day of Armenian Martyrs (the governor of Colorado adopted the first proclamation on April 23, 1981).

The cross-stone to be sent to Colorado is ready. It is a duplicate of one of the cross-stones destroyed in Old Julfa, and there are many duplicates of that in different parts of the world.
