Parliament of Spain’s Autonomous Region of Navara has recognized the Armenian Genocide

The Parliament of the Autonomous Region of Navara of Spain ratified on June 23 the proclamation recognizing the Armenian Genocide, reports the news department of the European Friends of Armenia (EuFoA) Organization, according to “ArmenPress”. The Organization’s adoption of the proclamation is the result of the instructive visits to Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
The proclamation states that “in accordance with the Resolution adopted by the European Parliament in June 1987, which was later approved through similar resolutions (28 February 22) and 1 April 2004), the events that the Armenians suffered from are truly genocide”.
“Since we are approaching the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, such proclamations clearly show Europe’s solidarity with the Armenian people and their sufferings,” Director of the European Friends of Armenia Organization Eduardo Lorenzo Ochoa announced. Ochoa stressed that the EuFoA takes pride in the fact that more and more parts of Europe are becoming informed about the importance of the issue through the broad network.
The proclamation adopted by the Parliament of Spain’s Autonomous Region of Navara criticizes the policy developed by the Turkish regime of the time and urges Turkey to “establish with the spirit of good and harmonious neighbors diplomatic relations with Armenia and solve the border issue in peace”. In the text of the proclamation it is mentioned that, taking into consideration the fact that Turkey wants to join the EU, the country must solve the issues related to Armenian Genocide recognition and the establishment of diplomatic relations as soon as possible.
Navara is an autonomous region located in northern Spain and bordering France and is equivalent to Cyprus in terms of size (10,391 square kilometers). It has a population of nearly 650,000 and is Spain’s fourth region that has recognized the Armenian Genocide after the Land of the Basques, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
