Head of the delegation of the RA National Assembly to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Koryun Nahapetyan has presented “ArmenPress” with the issues that the Armenian delegation raised during the Rose-Roth seminar taking place in Azerbaijan. According to Nahapetyan, the discussions are heated, and the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process lies at the core of the discussions. “The situation of Nagorno-Karabakh lies at the core of the discussions. The delegation of the RA National Assembly has clearly expressed its position on the issue, noting that Nagorno-Karabakh has never been a part of independent Azerbaijan. The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic declared its independence by exercising the right of nations to self-determination, which fully fell in line with the fundamental norms and principles of international law. We also mentioned that the conflict resolution will be possible through the direct involvement of Nagorno-Karabakh in the process,” said Koryun Nahapetyan.

According to the NA Deputy, the Armenian delegates stressed the several ceasefire violations, the dislocation of snipers from the line of contact, the creation of mechanisms for leading investigations into the incidents, the end of hostility, the economic blockade and several other factors that impede the establishment of peace, the conflict settlement and confidence building. “During the discussions, the Armenian and Azerbaijani delegates were mainly active. The other delegates of the parliamentary assembly aren’t very interested in the discussions and rarely respond,” said Koryun Nahapetyan.

When asked if Azerbaijan kept its word and ensured the Armenian delegates’ security, Koryun Nahapetyan mentioned: “Yes, it kept its word until this moment, and I can record it. We were provided with safety measures at the venue and the hotel. We are accompanied by security officers, and I don’t see any problem with that.”

Delegates of Armenia’s parliament have left for Baku to participate in the 84^th Rose-Roth Seminar of the NATO PA, including head of the Armenian Delegation to the NATO PA Koryun Nahapetyan, secretary of the parliamentary faction of Heritage Party (Zharangutyun) Tevan Poghosyan and Head of the Center for Strategic Studies in Yerevan Richard Giragosian.
