Kessab under Syrian army’s control again

The Syrian town of Kessab located in the north of Latakia is under the Syrian army’s control again. The army has eliminated dozens of armed rebels, and the news has been confirmed by Syria’s SANA state news agency.

Earlier, news had been received that the army had made achievements near Kessab on June 14. The Lebanese Al Mayadin website reported that on June 14, the army advanced toward the Two Sources (Ekizoluk, An Nabayin) and Garaturan residential areas. According to “ArmenPress”, the source also reports that the Samra and Ekizoluk villages are under the army’s control.

According to the information posted on the Latakia Information Network Facebook page, the Syrian army has entered Kessab and heated clashes are taking place. According to the source, the Jabha an Nusra and other opposition groups have started retreating from Kessab.

Rumor has it that Turkish border forces have closed the border for the retreating terrorist groups.

The attack on Kessab located near the Turkish-Syrian border and to the north of Latakia was launched from several points on the Turkish border on March 21. There was information according to which the attack was organized by the Jabha an Nusra and Jeish al Islam groups.

Most of the residents of the town have moved to safer areas, primarily Latakia, and some families, including adults have remained in their homes and were later taken captive.

Most of them have been taken to the Armenian-populated Vakef village of Turkey and have later been sent to Beirut.
