Mihran Jaburyan scores silver medal at Ali Aliyev Wrestling Championship

The 45th international freestyle wrestling championship dedicated to 5-time champion, renowned wrestler Ali Aliyev was held in Kaspiysk. Among the 110 top wrestlers were Armenia’s 8 delegates in the 57 kg, 65 kg and 74 kg weight categories, but Mihran Jaburyan (57 kg weight category) performed most successfully. The experienced Armenian wrestler reached the finals and scored the silver medal after losing to two-time winner of this championship Artyom Gebekov with just 2.9 points. In addition to the gold medal and the grand prize, Gebekov was also awarded with a special prize and received a 300,000 rubles tip. Tital Jafaryan (Ukraine), who lost to Russian wrestler Ahmed Chakayev in the final in the 65 kg weight category, also scored a silver medal, reports the Armenian Wrestling Federation to “ArmenPress”.

The Russians scored most of the medals. Out of the 8 gold medals, the Russians scored 7, and the last one was awarded to Azerbaijani wrestler Ali Isayev in the heavyweight category. Two of Armenia’s delegates, including Garnik Mnatsakanyan (57 kg) and Narek Sirunyan (65 kg) were able to win the 5th place.

Let us remind that from May 29th to 31st, 3 wrestlers from Armenia’s freestyle wrestling team and 3 wrestlers from the country’s Greco-Roman wrestling team will participate in the large international representative championship in Sasari, Italy.
