Armenian canon players of “Hayordats Tun” Armenian School shone with their performances

In 2010, with the blessing of Prelate of the Armenian Diocese of Russia and Nor Nakhichevan, Archbishop Yezras Nersisyan, PhD student of the Conservatory, Iskuhi Karapetyan, who has been lecturing at the Conservatory and the music school in Yerevan for many years, opened a classroom for teaching the canon at the Diocese’s “Hayordats Tun” Armenian School in Moscow. Throughout the past four years, dozens of students have wanted to become familiar with the magic of the Armenian canon, but there were students who decided to master the canon, and one of those students is Angelica Tarverdyan. Her father, Armen Tarverdyan, found out about the club, sent her 8-year old daughter to the lessons and ordered a canon from Yerevan so that Angelica would have the opportunity to master the canon completely. The four years of hard work have paid off.

“I can say Angelica is an exceptionally talented kid. Over the past four years, she has managed to show that she can perform with any orchestra. Due to her efforts, she is already giving a solo concert with performances of Armenian folk songs and classics,” Iskuhi Karapetyan said after the concert.

In the first part of the concert, Angelica performed alone, and in the second part, she was joined by the other members of the Armenian canon club between the ages of 6 and 26, including Anahit Igityan, Arpi Avetisyan, Angelina Galstyan, Kristine Harutyunyan and Gayane Grigoryan. Emil Khinoyan (dhol), Lilya Ghazaryan (piano) and Konstantin Sadoyev also accompanied the performers during the concert.

“I would like to thank Konstantin Sadoyev for his accompaniment on the piano. He always supports us with his great accompaniment,” Iskuhi Karapetyan mentioned.

Among the attendees were the school’s representatives, as well as Moscow-based Armenian cultural figures who expressed their gratitude to the “Hayordats Tun” and Iskuhi Karapetyan for helping make the Armenian musical instrument heard abroad and transmitting it to the generations.

On June 12, the school’s “Akunk” Folk Instruments Ensemble, Iskuhi Karapetyan and Angelica Tarverdyan will be participating in the 7th Хранители наследия России Folk Art Competition-Festival near Moscow to present Armenian national instruments and music to the Russian audience.
