Today is beloved actor, comedian Armen Khostikyan’s birthday

Beloved Armenian actor, comedian Armen Khostikyan was born on May 22, 1923 in Yerevan. Khostikyan graduated from Secondary School N 30 in Yerevan and got accepted to the Medical Institute, but refused to continue his medical studies a year later. From 1947 to 1951, he was a student of Armen Gulakyan at the Faculty of Acting of Yerevan State Institute of Arts and Theater. In the course of his studies, Khostikyan played the roles of Parsid in “Destroyed Home”, Tumansky in “Mashenka” and Luans in “Two Noblemen of Verona”. In 1951, he started playing at Sundukyan Theater in Yerevan and played big and small roles until 1990. Khostikyan was a great actor-comedian. Among his roles are Sergey Bek in “Namus”, Harut Anverj in “Haji Paylak”, Ferdishchenko in “The Stupid” (Apush), Fushe in “Madam San-Jen”, Atillo in “Saturday, Sunday, Monday”, Telyatev in “Mad Money” and more. In the 1990s, Khostikyan created a small actors’ group and performed in Yerevan and outside of the capital. He also starred in children’s performances. His play “Adventures of Abelik” was staged at the Sundukyan National Academic Theater in Yerevan in 1981. Khostikyan has also starred in Armenian films and TV theater. He was also one of the favorite characters on New Year’s television programs for more than two decades.
Khostikyan also played in several dramas, but the people accepted and loved him as an actor-comedian. His first roles in cinema (calf raising in “Voske Tslik”, Maskhara Zaven in “Boys of the Orchestra”) pleased the audience so much that the expressions of the characters in those films became aphorisms.
In 1984, Khostikyan was granted the title of People’s Artist of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1987, he created the “Pyunik” Studio. In 2000, he was granted the “Movses Khorenatsi” Medal.
Armen Khostikyan passed away on July 22, 2003 in Yerevan.
