Armenians pay tribute to victims of the genocide of Pontos-Greeks

Dr. Hayk Demoyan was keynote speaker at event held in Athens

On May 19, on the occasion of the anniversary of the genocide of Pontos-Greeks, a commemorative event and wreath-laying ceremony were held in front of the monument to the Unknown Soldier in Sindama Square in central Athens.

The keynote speaker was Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, historian, Dr. Hayk Demoyan, who gave an impressive speech in which he touched upon Ottoman Turkey’s massacres against Christian nations in Asia Minor and mentioned that the commemorative events dedicated to the genocides of the Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians are not a necessity, but are important to prevent future genocides and guarantee the security of all nations.

Wreaths were laid by RA Ambassador Gagik Ghalachyan; military attaché of the Republic of Armenia, Colonel Samvel Ramazyan and Chairman of the ARF-D Armenian National Committee David Petrosyan. Among others attending the event were delegates of the ARF-D Armenian Youth Association, who were joined by demonstrators holding signs and the Armenian national flag.

In Armenia

On May 19, the Greek community in Armenia also commemorated the victims of the genocide of the Greeks. Deputy Speaker of the RA National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov, deputies of the NA faction, Greek Ambassador to Armenia Ioannis Daghis, clergymen and representatives of the Greek community of Armenia visited Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex and laid wreaths at the monument dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The event was followed by a Requiem Mass.

In his speech, NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov said the Armenian government is doing everything it can for condemnation of the genocide that was planned, organized and perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks against the Christian nations in Asia Minor.
