Armenian Genocide Commemoration events in Germany

As reported by the RA MFA press office to “Hayern Aysor”, events dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide were held in Germany from April 24th to 27th.
On Apr. 24, RA Ambassador to Germany Vahan Hovhannisyan, diplomats accredited to Hessen, Deputies of the Bundestag and Landtag, RA Honorary Consuls in Hessen and Baden Wurtemberg, German intellectuals and representatives of the local Armenian community participated in an Armenian Genocide Commemoration ceremony held at the Pauli Church of Meini Frankfurt at the initiative of the Central Council of German-Armenians (CCGA). Among the speakers at the event were RA Ambassador to Germany Vahan Hovhannisyan, board member of the CCGA Madlen Vardyan and Deputy of the Bundestag Ditmar Nitan, who stressed the fact that Turkey’s ongoing denial of the Armenian Genocide is inadmissible. The event included musical performances by the choir of Geghard Monastery and ended with words of remembrance and a prayer by deputy leader of the German Diocese of the Armenian Church, Archimandrite Serovbe Isakhanyan.
On Apr. 24, representatives of Germany’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Bundestag and Berlin municipal parliament, representatives of Berlin’s municipal authorities, the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Berlin, diplomats, journalists and members of German-Armenian community organizations attended the commemoration ceremony dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide held at the French Temple in Berlin at the initiative of the two Armenian communities of Berlin and the RA Embassy. The ceremony began with opening remarks by member of the council of the Armenian community of Berlin Vardges Alyanak. In his speech, Advisor of the RA Embassy Ashot Smbatyan mentioned that justice is necessary because genocide is a crime that must be punished and that the generations of the victims of the Genocide only view recognition and restoration of the victims’ rights as respect to the memory of their deceased ancestors. Professor Holscher of the University of Bokhumi also gave a speech. The ceremony ended with the words of remembrance and a prayer by leader of the German-Armenian Diocese of the Armenian Church, Archbishop Garegin Bekchyan.
On Apr. 24, an Armenian Genocide Commemoration event was held in the German city of Stuttgart at the initiative of the Armenian community of Baden-Wurtemberg.
The “Dialogue of Cultures” Foundation held events dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with the support of the RA Ministries of Culture and Diaspora and the RA Embassy in Berlin in the German cities of Herford, Lubek and Hamburg.
The event in Herford was held at the Saint Sargis Church on Apr. 24.
The event at the Saint Hakob Church in Lubek was held with exclusive musical performances by famous German organ player Meyer and Armenian dudukist G. Dabaghyan on Apr. 26.
The event in Hamburg was held on Apr. 27.
On Apr. 26, deputies of Landtag of Munich, public and political figures and media representatives and members of the Armenian community of Bavaria attended an event dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide held by the Bavarian-Armenian community, the Armenian Church Community of Munich and the Institute for Armenian Issues at the hall of Kremer Cultural Center in Munich. The event began with words of remembrance by spiritual pastor of the Armenian Church in Munich, Priest Aygik and was followed by welcoming remarks by Director of the Institute for Armenian Issues of Munich Alice Marukhian, as well as speeches by Ambassador Hovhannisyan and leader of the Bavarian-Armenian community Ani Chakr.
