Ambassador Ghazaryan’s meeting in the Italian Senate
As reported by the RA MFA press office to “Hayern Aysor”, on Apr. 15, RA Ambassador to Italy Sargis Ghazaryan had a meeting with the members of the council of the Friendship with Armenia Group of the Parliament of Italy at the Italian Senate. Among other participants of the meeting were founders of the Friendship with Armenia Group in the former Chamber of Deputies Albertina Soliani, Franco Asciuti and Renato Farina.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ghazaryan presented the past and perspectives of development of Armenian-Italian relations, Armenia’s economic potential, the main directions of the country’s foreign policy, as well as Armenia’s and the international community’s efforts for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. The RA Ambassador also touched upon the situation in Syria and, in that context-the security and humanitarian issues of the Syrian-Armenians, as well as the opportunities of Italy’s support to the Armenians of Kessab. Talking about the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the strengthening of relations between the two countries, Ambassador Ghazaryan underlined the importance of reciprocal visits and the establishment of direct contacts, as well as cooperation within parliamentary assemblies.
In their speeches, the Italian parliamentarians touched upon the historical ties between Armenians and Italians and the presence of the Italian-Armenian community, as well as the commonalities of civilizations of both nations. They attached importance to the development of relations between the parliaments of the two countries, as well as taking steps and implementing programs for that purpose, expressing the willingness to make their contributions to the development of cooperation with Armenia in different spheres. The speakers also talked about the Armenian Genocide and attached importance to raising the Italian society’s awareness about the issue. Deputy Flavia Nardelli Piccoli attached importance to the implementation of action aimed at enhancing relations in culture, science and education.
In the end, Ambassador Ghazaryan granted medals of the Armenian Embassy to members Sandra Zampa, Albertina Soliani and Franco Asciuti.
