UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative visits Catholicos Nerses Petros XIX
On Apr. 1, Catholicos Patriarch Nerses Petros XIX received the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative to Lebanon Derek Plambli at the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate. The visit was part of the meetings of the Catholicos Patriarch devoted to the issue of Kessab.
The Holy Father briefly presented the history of the Armenian-populated town of Kessab and stressed its importance for all Armenians. The Holy Father also clarified the situation facing the Armenians who were deported from Kessab and took shelter in Latakia and stressed the need to provide direct support to the people and ensure their safe return to their homes in Kessab. The Holy Father presented the Special Representative a copy of the announcement by the Supreme Council of the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate on Kessab.
Derek Plambli pledged to transmit the Holy Father’s concerns and expectations and manage the humanitarian assistance to the Armenia people who have been deported from Kessab.
