Armenian-Arab Legal Council criticizes attack on Kessab

The Armenian-Arab Legal Council has criticized the attack of terrorist groups on Kessab. As reported by “ArmenPress”, citing the Syrian SANA Agency, in the statement it is mentioned that the armed terrorist groups are directly supported by Erdogan’s government. “The new generation of Turks is continuing the genocide and exile that the Ottoman Turks perpetrated in the past, and they are led by Erdogan’s government,” as stated in the statement. The Council commended the Syrian army and the heroic acts of the armed forces.

The attack on Kessab located near the Turkish-Syrian border and to the north of Latakia began from eight points on the border with Turkey on Mar. 21. There were rumors that the attack was carried out by the Jabha An Nusra and Jeysh Al Islam groups. There are practically no more civilians in Kessab. They have been moved to safer areas. Most of the Armenians have taken shelter within national organizations located near the Saint Mary Armenian Church of Latakia. The local Armenian Emergency Unit and the Red Crescent of Syria have provided necessary food and accessories to the civilians.

Prior to the 1947 immigration, Kessab was completely populated by Armenians. After that, the image changed, and foreigners started settling in Kessab, while the Armenians from Kessab immigrated to Armenia.
