Australia has moral and legal responsibility to suspend Turkey’s provocative actions in Kessab-Armenian National Committee of Australia

The Armenian National Committee of Australia has sent a letter to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia Julie Bishop, asking the Australian government to make Turkey “immediately end the attacks of different soldiers adjunct to Al-Qaeda, the target of which are the peaceful civilians of the Armenian-populated town of Kessab in Syria”.

The Armenian National Committee urges Australia to use its position in the international community ot put an end to the assaults.

As a country that has chaired the UN Security Council, has a moral and legal responsibility to put an end to Turkey’s provocative actions and end the latter’s support to the extremists.

“Turkey’s support to the foreign soldiers adjunct to Al-Qaeda and the assaults against innocent civilians of Syria only impede the international community’s efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability in the country that has been in a war for more than three years. Turkey’s actions remind the nations of the region and the whole world of the massacres that the Ottoman Turks perpetrated against the Armenians, the Assyrians and the Greeks from 1915 to 1923,” as stated in the letter of the Armenian National Committee of Australia.

“We can’t stay idle for a long time and allow the overt violation of human rights under the name of war. Australia must take the initiative, and the Armenian National Committee of Australia promises to do everything possible to protect the interests of our community, most of which have friends and relatives in Kessab,” said Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee Vatche Ghahramanian.
