Barekamutyun State Dance Ensemble to pay tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide

Armenia’s honored Barekamutyun State Dance Ensemble is preparing to give concerts dedicated to the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide ahead of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. This is what the Ensemble’s artistic director Norayr Mehrabyan mentioned in an interview with “ArmenPress”.

Mehrabyan stressed the fact that the concert dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide won’t be held in 2015, but this year.

“We plan on organize a theme-based concert to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on April 23rd.

We’re already rehearsing to perform the works of classic Armenian composers during the concert.

We want to give a big concert. We’re not doing this to prove something. Every year, we organize concerts to pay tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. During this concert, we’ll perform the works of Komitas (“Tsirani Tsar”, “Krunk”, etc.). There will also be reciting of poems,” said Norayr Mehrabyan.

The artistic director of Barekamutyun State Dance Ensemble underlined the fact that the concert will end with happy melodies and will let everyone know that despite all the difficulties, the Armenians go on and continue to dance.

“We’re already working on a new dance ahead of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide on the basis of a song by an Armenian composer. It is every Armenian’s duty to remember that crime and pay tribute to the innocent victims. I don’t know what to choreograph, but Barekamutyun will definitely participate in the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide,” said Mehrabyan.

In 1987, People’s Artist of the Republic of Armenia Norayr Mehrabyan created the Barekamutyun Dance Ensemble. Since the first day of its existence, the Ensemble attracted crowds with its dances in various genres and the folk dances of different nationalities. The Ensemble’s professionalism, hard work and love for dance became the guarantee for success.

In 2008, the Ensemble was granted the title of an Honored Group.

Barekamutyun began its 27th concert season with a concert held at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall on Feb. 27.
