Catholicos of All Armenians receives President of Georgia

On Feb. 28, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians received President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. Margvelashvili was accompanied by RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandyan. Head of the Divan of the Mother See, Bishop Arshak Khachatryan, Primate of the Georgian-Armenian Diocese, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan and Director of the Administrative-Economic Department of the Mother See, Bishop Mushegh Babayan also attended the meeting.

Welcoming the visit of the President of Georgia and his delegation to Armenia and the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the Catholicos of All Armenians expressed joy for the cooperation between the two countries and stressed that such reciprocal visits contribute to the reinforcement of relations between the two nations and countries. The Catholicos of All Armenians underlined the importance of mutual support and strengthening of brotherhood between the two nations living next to each other in the same region and that the Armenian Church has always made efforts for that.

During the talks, the sides touched upon the Georgian-Armenian community, its contributions in the past and present and its role in the country’s economy, culture, education and other spheres. The Catholicos of All Armenians expressed satisfaction with the progress that has been made recently in the solution to issues concerning the Georgian-Armenian Diocese and the Armenian community and expressed confidence that they will lead to the solution of all the issues related to the spiritual life of Georgian-Armenians.

In the end, His Holiness wished Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili success for the welfare of Georgia and its faithful people.

After the meeting, the President of Georgia also visited the Mother Temple and the museum in the Temple.
