On February 18 within the framework of the visit to Armenia John Whittingdale, Head of the Inter-Parliamentary Union British Group and the members of the Group, Deputy Speakers of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom Baroness Gloria Hooper, Lord Richard Faulkner, members of the House of Commons Stephen Pound and Mike Gapes visited Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex.
The British guests laid flowers at the memorial eternalizing the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims and paid their respects to the memory of the innocent victims.
The Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan met with the Head of the Inter-parliamentary Union British Group and its members.
The Director gave detailed information to the guests about the Armenian Genocide, familiarized them with the documents of the Armenian Genocide.
The British MPs shared their impressions with the representatives of the mass media.
The Head of the Delegation, the member of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom (UK) John Whittingdale has noted that every visit to Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex is a moving experience for him. “We are approaching the centenary anniversary of the Genocide, and we intend to mark it in Great Britain. It is very important that what happened would not be forgotten. That is why we are here.”
The MP of the House of Commons Stephen Pound has noted that he would say a lot, but according to him, the words are not important, but it is important what you have in your hearts. He said: “We are approaching the centenary anniversary, many people hoped to forget that fact, we have come to prove that the world has not forgotten. The whole civilized world should get together to recognize that horrendous crime which happened in the Western Armenia. I am with Armenians in my heart, though I have no Armenian blood. I am proud of Armenians who have suffered a lot, but they have never defeated.”
In connection with the NK issue settlement, Stephen Pound has noted that he had a report on Karabakh issue at the beginning of February.
According to him, the works of the OSCE Minsk Group are going on slowly, and the British Government should do a lot in this issue. Stephen Pound has also noted that the NK issue should be raised again and again in the British Parliament.
