Javakhk celebrated Saint Sargis Day

A cultural event devoted to Saint Sargis Day was held at the Home of the Future in Akhalkalak on February 14th. The event was organized and sponsored by Vicar of the General Prelacy of Javakhk, Archimandrite Babgen Salbiyan.

The ceremony devoted to lovers’ day began with the Lord’s Prayer and was followed by a short presentation of Saint Sargis the Warrior.

Afterwards, the newly created theater company of the Vicariate performed a play called “Saint Sargis-the Patron of Lovers”.

A month before Saint Sargis Day, the Vicariate of the General Prelacy of Javakhk had announced an essay and painting competition devoted to Saint Sargis. Nearly 100 students from Akhalkalak and Ninotsminda participated in the competition. On Feb. 12, a 4-member jury selected the winners, and the winning participants received their prizes on February 14th.

Spiritual pastor of the Holy Cross Armenian Church of Akhalkalak, Priest Tatev Marukyan congratulated the gathered and gave his blessings, after which he announced the names of the recipients.

Student of school N 5 of Akhalkalak Karine Nahatakyan won first place in the Best Essay category, followed by Anyuta Titoyan in second place and student of school N 2 of Akhalkalak Gohar Aslanyan in third place.

Tatev Tumasyan, Lusine Stepanyan and Tigran Titoyan won first, second and third places, respectively in the painting competition. Kristine Hakobyan, Aghavni Nazaryan, Ofelya Palanjyan and Nahapet Aktchoyan received encouraging prizes.

In the end, the students of school N 4 of Akhalkalak performed a beautiful musical number for lovers, and the 4th grade students performed the song “Hye-Hye” by Inga and Anush Arshakyan.
