UK Parliament discusses Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement

The official London is concerned about the ceasefire violations at the Armenian-Azerbaijani line of contact and the tension that is being maintained. Based on information posted on the UK Parliament’s official website, this was mentioned during a debate initiated by Deputy of the UK Parliament Steven Pound and attended by representative of the UK Foreign Ministry Mark Simmons, reports “ArmenPress”. In his speech, the MFA representative said the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict continues to impede the development of Armenia and Azerbaijan and is also the cause of instability in the region. “Great Britain is concerned about the ongoing ceasefire violations at the line of contact and on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Simmons said, underlining the fact that the UK supports the OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts. The MFA representative assured that both London and the international community are ready to show their support to the conflicting sides at the time in need.

“The longer the conflict lasts, the more losses there will be and the more complicated the peaceful solution to the issue will be,” Simmons said, urging the sides to refrain from provocations. Simmons mentioned that the UK government will make more efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement that will be based on the principles of non-application of force, territorial integrity and the right of nations to self-determination. Underlining the fact that Great Britain is a friend of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Simmons said the efforts of the conflicting sides may lead to the establishment of enduring peace and stability in the region.
