Arno Babajanyan would have turned 93 today

Famous composer, pianist Arno Babajanyan would have turned 93 this year. Every year, the friends and fans of the People’s Artist of the USSR visit his tomb at the Pantheon in Yerevan. In an interview with “ArmenPress”, Deputy Director of Arno Babajanyan State Musical College in Yerevan Anna Aghajanyan mentioned that even though the students are currently on vacation and there won’t be any events, the teachers always visit Babajanyan’s tomb and lay flowers.

The Arno Babajanyan State Musical College has been around for 45 years and was named after the famous composer in the wake of his death in 1983. The college has 300 students. Years after the composer’s death, his music still sparks interest and serves as a source of inspiration for musicians.

The collection of Arno Babajanyan’s solos will be presented to music lovers in Armenia and abroad in early 2014. The works of Babajanyan will be performed by renowned Armenian pianist Hayk Melikyan. With its format and large number of works, the album will be the first after the performances of the great composer that will include all the solos composed by Babajanyan.

According to the manager, the album will include the songs “Polyphonic Sonata”, “Six Images”, “Poem”, “Dance of Vagharshapat”, “Capriccio”, “Prelude”, “Exprompt”, “Melody”, “Elegy”, “Humoresque” and “Thoughts”.

Babajanyan died from blood cancer in Moscow on November 11, 1983.
