Aronian: Any win in such strong tournament is important

Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and who is ranked second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) ratings—spoke about his win against Fabiano Caruana (Italy) in Round 2 of the 2014 Tata Steel Chess Tournament being held in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands.

“Any win in such a strong tournament is an important one and I’m happy that I didn’t spoil too much because I felt I had a good position out of the opening. If you see a good move, you definitely need to make it. You should not spend a lot of time on that move, since then you can spoil everything,” the tournament press service quotes the Armenian GM as saying.

In Round 3, Levon Aronian will face 17-year-old GM Richard Rapport (Hungary). In the first round, the Armenian GM played a draw against GM Pentala Harikrishna (India).
