In Adis Abeba RA Ambassador to Ethiopia Armen Melkonyan had meetings with Speaker of the Parliament (House of Representatives) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abadullah Gemeda and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Berhan Gebre-Kristos.

The RA Ambassador transmitted the message of Chairman of the RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan to Abadullah Gemeda and the message of RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandyan to Ethiopian Minister for Foreign Affairs Berhan Gebre-Kristos.

During the meetings, the sides discussed the possibilities of strengthening the traditionally friendly relations and laying the foundations for mutually beneficial cooperation in different spheres. In that sense, the sides attached importance to the strengthening of official and humanitarian contacts at different levels, high-level reciprocal visits, the establishment of inter-parliamentary relations, the formation of a legal-contractual field regulating interstate relations and more. The sides also exchanged views on regional issues.

Ambassador Melkonyan also visited Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia, His Holiness Abun Matteos. During the meeting, the Ambassador discussed the close historical, cultural and spiritual ties between Armenians and Ethiopians and conveying new air to those relations in the current era. The sides appreciated the significant contributions that the Armenian community of Ethiopia has made to the society and culture of the country for centuries. The Patriarch conveyed his good wishes to His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians and the friendly Armenian nation, reports the RA MFA press office to “Hayern Aysor”.
