RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan calls on Armenians to condemn the European Court’s decision

Dear compatriots,

The European Court of Human Rights upheld on Dec. 17 the lawsuit that Turkish political figure Dogu Perinchek had filed against Switzerland. This comes after the Swiss court had punished Perinchek for denying the Armenian Genocide and for making the statement “Genocide is an international lie”. Once again, we see that very often there are double standards and that economic interests are sometimes placed above human rights-something that must be unacceptable for societies of the 21st century.

The European Court didn’t approve the Turkish figure’s lawsuit unanimously since it was simply the decision of a couple of judges. Of course, the Turkish lobby made serious efforts. The time has come for us Armenians to give a stronger counterattack so that other state and political organizations don’t indicate the Court’s decision.

This decision taken by the European Court of Human Rights is not final since the Swiss authorities are entitled to appeal the decision in the course of three months. The Armenian side, that is, Diaspora Armenian organizations and individuals must make serious efforts to help Switzerland. They also have to organize protests in front of the corresponding bodies of European countries (Parliament, Government, etc.) with the demand that those countries keep the mentioned issue in their focus and not let the dignity of Armenians be violated again, not let reality be distorted again and not pave the way for new genocides. The European Court has taken a political, illegitimate decision.

All Armenians must send a letter of protest to the European Court with the demand for justice. They must also demand that the Court not sell its conscience because it can’t renounce the genocide.

You can send your complaints and messages to the Court by clicking on the following link:

In light of this, I appeal to all Diaspora Armenian organizations and urge all of us to unite and help appeal this decision and restore justice.

Send your messages and make our voices heard for the sake of justice, the Armenian Cause, human rights and to not see genocide in any corner of the globe.
