A New Star Is Born on the ARS Firmament

On Thursday, September 20, 2018 the Central Executive Board of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS), established a new chapter-at-large named “Akhtamar” in the city of Sodertalje, Sweden.
The founding ceremony was held at the St. Mary’s Armenian Church and attended by ARS Central Executive Board Member, Liza Avakian, ARF Committee Members of Sweden, and 15 newly inducted members, who swore allegiance to the ARS humanitarian mission. Welcoming the new members, Liza Avakian noted the global field of ARS activities that can only be achieved with the support of people from all walks of life and continues to extend a helping hand to all who need assistance. She stressed the importance of responsibility as committed volunteers of mercy, devoted to the sacred mission of the ARS.
After the ceremony, the hand-sewn flag was handed to the new Entity, to be raised proudly at all functions of the new Chapter-at-large. The chapter will work alongside the Stockholm Chapter that has been operating within the capital since 1993.
The following day, on September 21, on the Occasion of the 27th Anniversary of the Re-establishment of Armenia’s independence, the chapter had organized “Ethnic Day of Dikranagerd,” where around 170 compatriots gathered to celebrate both the feast of their Fatherland’s Independence and the birth of ARS chapter in their community.
During the proceedings, Reverent Priest Vagharsh Isakhanian, and Ungh. Liza Avakian took to the podium to express their prayers, feelings, and best wishes. Presentations were made of traditions and customs of Dikranagerd Armenians, followed by presentation of mementos to the ARS Central Executive Board and all others who contributed to the success of the artistic program of this function.
Upon this joyous occasion, the ARS Central Executive Board congratulates the Sodertalje ARS “Akhtamar” Chapter members, wishing it success in all its endeavors, justifying our motto, “With The People, For The People” and setting an example of voluntary service in the community.
