Event dedicated to Lebanese-Armenian poet Bedig Hergelian was held

Oh, excuse me, friends

for having to leave your world once again,

the ownerless lords of my world are

forcing me to hurry.

B. Hergelian

On June 12, the Hovhannes Tumanyan House-Museum of Yerevan hosted a literary-musical event dedicated to notable Lebanese-Armenian poet Bedig Hergelian (1954-87) under the title “After the Farewell” and attended by writers, literary critics, intellectuals, as well as members of the poet’s family and friends.

As reported the organizers to Hayern Aysor, during the event, Director of the Hovhannes Tumanyan House-Museum Narine Tukhikyan and literary critic Alik Topchyan venerated Bedig Hergelian the poet. Topchyan touched upon the literature of the late poet and paid special attention to Hergelian’s short political-satirical novel “Yeouhou”.

In his speech, Alik Topchyan also attached importance to the fact that this event would help make the highly reputable Lebanese-Armenian writer recognizable among writers in Armenia and talked about the need for printing a full anthology of Bedig Hergelian’s poems.

During the event, the Lebanese-Armenian poet’s poems were read by actresses Anahit Topchyan and Hasmik Ter-Karapetyan, as well as Anna Sarajyan. The readings were followed by the screening of the biographical film “After Farewell”, which is devoted to Bedig Hergelian.

The event ended with an exchange of views and speeches by some of Bedig Hergelian’s friends who expressed their heartfelt words about Hergelian the poet and Hergelian the friend.
