Chess tournament dedicated to 100th anniversary of First Republic of Armenia held in Barcelona

On June 10, the Armenian Home of Barcelona hosted an open chess tournament dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia and organized by the Armenian Cultural Association of Barcelona. The event began with opening remarks by President of the Association Tatev Sulyan, Vicar of the Patriarchal Delegate to Western Europe in Spain, Archimandrite Sipan Gevorgyan and representative of the Association’s Chess Club Vardges Sargsyan.
As reported the Association to Hayern Aysor, the tournament was held with the participation of chess players under 14 and adult chess players. During the young chess players’ competition, Yuri Harutyunyan won first place, followed by Milena Muradyan and Alex Movsesyan in second and third places, respectively. During the adults’ competition, Narek Hovakimyan won first place, followed by Samvel Melkumyan and Tigran Vardanyan in second and third places, respectively. Sona Gasparyan scored the Special Cup of the Armenian Cultural Association of Barcelona.
At the end of the event, all the participants were awarded special commemorative medals by the Association.
