The House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Netherlands today adopted a proclamation on Armenian Genocide recognition.
President of the Federation of Armenian Organizations of the Netherlands Mato Hakhverdyan reported that the decision was adopted by an absolute majority of votes.
“The only vote “against” was from one of the small factions, the three members of which are of Turkish descent. The resolutions were passed with 142 votes in favor,” Hakhverdyan said. The two resolutions on Armenian Genocide recognition were introduced in the parliament’s agenda by member of the country’s coalitional Christian Union Party Joel Fordevind.
The first resolution reaffirms the decision on recognition by the Netherlands of the Armenian Genocide in 2004, and the second states that the government of the Netherlands will be obliged to visit Armenia at the level of a minister on April 24th and pay respects at Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex once every five years.
