Armenian culture museum opens in Kiev

It has already been a month since the Rerikh Public Library of Kiev opened the Navasard Museum-Hall of Armenian Culture. Historically, the library has been collaborating with the Armenian community for a long time, and a decision was made to open a hall devoted to Armenian culture, literature and the arts.

As reported AnalitikaUA.net, the women’s committee of the Armenian community of Kiev and the library’s representatives gathered a large number of books, paintings and other samples of Armenian cultural heritage. The opening ceremony of the museum-hall was held on February 21 (International Mother Language Day) at Rerikh Public Library, which is located at 12 Yerevan Street in Kiev, and this is symbolic. In his speech at the event, Bishop Marcos Hovhannisyan, who is the leader of the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, donated a small cross-stone to the hall and gave his blessing to the organizers and their initiative. As is known, the Armenian community of Ukraine is one of the largest and one of the most organized communities of the Armenian Diaspora.

Armenians have a notable presence in the history of Ukraine. Armenians first settled in the territory of modern-day Ukraine back in the 11th-12th centuries. Throughout the centuries, the Armenians have created a tremendous material and spiritual heritage in Ukraine. The Armenians have become integrated into Ukrainian society, while preserving their cultural, national and religious features. Currently, thousands of Armenians live in Ukraine, have communities in several cities across the country and have established their non-governmental organizations and cultural institutions.

The Armenians are building churches and schools and enhancing national culture. The Union of Armenians of Ukraine, under the leadership of Vilen Shatvoryan, has become the only all-Ukrainian organization that consolidates all the Armenian organizations operating in the country. The Union actively works on disseminating national and historical values. As Shatvoryan mentioned, science and culture are traditionally in the focus of the organization. “Every historic and cultural structure is important for us. We take pride in the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Armenians of Ukraine and will do everything we can to preserve and popularize the historical, architectural and cultural heritage.”
