Denver’s Armenian Saturday School celebrated International Women’s Day
On March 10, the Armenian Saturday School in Denver celebrated International Women’s Day.
As Chairperson f the Armenian Organization of Colorado (AOC) and the school’s founder Sona Hedeshyan told Hayern Aysor, the special event was organized by the School’s Principal Ruzanna Avetisyan and Armenian language teacher Gaiane Zakaryan. The children not only sang, danced and recited poems in a warm, festive atmosphere, but also surprised their mothers in the audience by showing postcards with photos of them and their mothers and with kind wishes in Armenian and giving them flower bouquets. The photos were then shown through a slide show. The parents were very touched by the children’s surprise.
Among the attendees of the event was Vice-Chairperson of the AOC Byuzand Yeremyan.
Sona Hedeshyan also assured that even though the Armenian community of Denver is small in number, the community does its best to make sure the young generation preserves the national identity.
In closing, Sona Hedeshyan expressed her kind wishes to all Armenian ladies and women of the world and particularly stated the following: “I wish that Armenian women of the world continue to provide their children with an Armenian upbringing, teach them Armenian and transmit knowledge about the Armenian culture and history as they overcome the current obstacles around them. By doing this, they can help preserve Armenian families and make sure they are not exposed to the risk of assimilation. May Armenian mothers — the pillars of an Armenian family — be with us always, stay strong in their faith and transmit that faith to the generations.”
Let us add that the school was founded in November 2017 and offers Armenian language courses and native studies courses for 40 children and teens between the ages of 4 and 16.
