Czech press covers 30th anniversary of Sumgait Pogroms

On March 3, Šimon Krbec, Director of the Terezín Memorial-Ghetto Museum and the Archaeology of Evil Research Center, published an extensive article (“Dangerous Culture of Renunciation of Genocides”) in Mlada Fronta Dnes, which is one of the most reputable newspapers in the Czech Republic. The first part of the article is devoted to the pogroms that took place in Sumgait 30 years ago.
The author of the article states that the Armenian massacres perpetrated by the Azerbaijanis were organized and were permitted by the Soviet authorities. Krbec also provides details about the massacres.
In the end of the part devoted to the Sumgait Pogroms, Krbec also presents Azerbaijan’s viewpoint, taking into consideration the recent joint statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan and draws the conclusion that the victim may be presented as the guilty in case of such commentaries.
In the next two parts of his article, the author also talks about the Holocaust and the genocide of gypsies, factually drawing parallels (without stating word-for-word) between the Nazis and the Azerbaijani authorities.
