On February 21, the headquarters of the Armenian National Committee of New Julfa hosted a lecture dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and May Heroic Battles. The lecture marked the launch of the series of events dedicated to the anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Armenia.
As reported Yeranush Tahmazian to Hayern Aysor from New Julfa, the event was organized by the board Benevolent Union of Armenian Women of New Julfa, on behalf of which the Union’s member Gaiane Yeghiazarian welcomed the attendees and gave an opening speech, after which keynote speaker and spiritual superintendent of the Armenian community of Shahinshahr, Supreme Archimandrite Anania Gujanian delivered an interesting and substantial lecture entitled “Armenian Women and Independence”. His Holiness also expressed congratulatory remarks and words of appreciation to the event organizers and the Union’s members. Later, His Holiness gave the floor to Chairman of the Central Committee for the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Armenia in New Julfa Tatul Ohanian, who provided information about the formation of the sub-committees comprising representatives of the anniversary committee of New Julfa, the community’s unions and the Armenian national schools and assured that the anniversary event would be celebrated properly. In his turn, Ohanian also expressed his gratitude and congratulatory remarks to the representatives of the Benevolent Union of Armenian Women.
The event ended with a recitation of Paruyr Sevak’s poem “We are few, but we are Armenian” and a modest reception.
Among the guests and attendees were Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Isfahan, Supreme Archimandrite Sipan Kechejian, clergymen, representatives of the national authorities and other national bodies, a representative of the Armenian National Committee of New Julfa, as well as members of the committee and sub-committee for the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and other guests.
It is worth mentioning that the Benevolent Union of Armenian Women of New Julfa had prepared a newsletter featuring short biographies of three women deputies elected during the first parliamentary elections of the Republic of Armenia (Katarine Zalyan-Manukyan, Varvar (Varya) Rotinyan-Sahakyan and Pertchuhi Partizpanyan-Barseghyan) and distributed them to the attendees.
