Plovdiv’s 110-year-old Armenian theater company performs in Greece

On February 10 and 11, the 110-year-old Hakob Paronyan Theater Company and Siroun Armenian Vocal Ensemble of the Armenian community of Plovdiv visited the Greek city of Gomotini at the invitation of the Armenian community of Gomotini.
On February 10, members of the Armenian community of Bulgaria, who were escorted by Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Plovdiv Yeghiazar Uzunyan, participated in the Armenian Tyarndarach celebration at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church. The celebration was followed by a short festive event that featured performances by Siroun Armenian Vocal Ensemble and dances performed by the dance ensembles of Plovdiv and Gomotini.
On February 11, with a new crew, the Hakob Paronyan Theater Company performed the play “I Caught My Bride” at the local theater. Besides the members of the community, others attending the performance were Priest Baret Hacherian, leader of the Armenian community Stepan Matevosian, cultural affairs director Jenny Gasparian, teacher of an Armenian Saturday school Ruzan Zohrabian and guests from Istanbul.
The city’s Chronos newspaper covered the performance.
“Throughout the years, the Armenian communities of Plovdiv and Gomotini have established very cordial ties, and it seems as though we are one family. Mutual visits are organized frequently. We spent a very interesting time during these past two days. The attendees were especially impressed with the performance of the Hakob Paronyan Theater Company. What was also important was the presence of Consul Yeghiazar Uzunyan, who covered the travel expenses,” Cultural Affairs Advisor to the Honorary Consul of Armenia in Plovdiv Aghavni Gevorgyan told Hayern Aysor and added that the Armenian dance ensemble of Gomotini has been invited to participate in the 2nd “Hello, Armenia” Pan-Armenian Festival to be held on 3 June in Plovdiv.
