On February 2, at the initiative of the Consulates General of Armenia and Mexico in Los Angeles, Los Angeles City Council adopted a proclamation on organizing Armenian-Mexican Culture Weeks every year on 2-9 February in Los Angeles. The proclamation on declaring an Armenian-Mexican Culture Week was submitted to Los Angeles City Council by Councilmen Paul Kerkorian and Monica Rodriguez.

As reported the press service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Hayern Aysor, in her speech addressed to the gathered, Monica Rodriguez stated that the goal of this initiative is to enhance cross-cultural dialogue and make the rich cultural and historical heritage of the two communities of Los Angeles recognizable.

In his speech, Ambassador of Armenia to the United States of America Grigor Hovhannisyan stated that the relations with the Mexican community and in general the Latin community are extremely important in the contexts of the community and states. He also attached importance to working not only with the federal government, but also at the level of local self-government bodies within which ethnic groups play a major role.

Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles Carlos Iuginio de Alba Zepeda highlighted the appropriateness of working jointly with other communities for the implementation of economic and cultural projects, adding that the Armenian-Mexican Culture Week is the parties’ second joint initiative following the business seminar hosted last year. The Consul General stressed that this initiative will serve as yet another bridge between the two states, governments and nations.

Reference: During the Armenian-Mexican Culture Week, the Consulate General of Mexico will host the screening of the film “The Promise” for the Mexican community, while the Armenians of Glendale will have the opportunity to watch a Mexican film. Officials of the diplomatic representations of both countries will visit Mexican and Armenian schoolchildren at a public school and an Armenian school. There will also be a photo exhibition showcasing the works of Mexican and Armenian photographers.
