Armenia’s delegates participated in events dedicated to 140th birth anniversary of great Bulgarian poet Peyo Yavorov

From January 12 to 15, Bulgaria hosted several events dedicated to the 140th birth anniversary of great friend of the Armenian people and notable Bulgarian poet Peyo Yavorov.

The Bulgarian Cultural Center in Sofia hosted the presentation of the new book devoted to Peyo Yavorov and entitled “I Am Not Living, I Am Burning”. The event began with welcoming remarks by Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Bulgaria Armen Sargsyan. Among the participants were well-known literary critics from Serbia, Russia and Great Britain. President of the Union of Writers of Armenia Eduard Militonyan and Editor-in-Chief of Tsitsernak Armenian children’s magazine, poet and children’s writer Anush Vardanyan represented Armenia and gave their speeches. Representatives of the Armenian community of Sofia showed their active participation in the event.

As reported Hayern Aysor, the ceremonies dedicated to Yavorov continued on 13 and 14 January in the great poet’s hometown of Chirpan where Ambassador Armen Sargsyan laid a wreath near the statue of Yavorv. Vice-President of Bulgaria Iliyana Yotova gave her welcoming remarks during the solemn ceremony.

Among other participants were Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Plovdiv Yeghiazar Uzunyan, Cultural Affairs Advisor to the Honorary Consul of Armenia in Plovdiv Aghavni Gevorgyan, as well as members of Armenian community and scouting organizations who had traveled from Plovdiv to participate in the event.

President of the Union of Writers of Armenia Eduard Militonyan lit the lamp symbolizing Yavorov’s poetry, and the Armenian scouts of Plovdiv took the lamp to central Chirpan with torches and Armenian national flags. The ceremony ended with a solemn session and festive concert.

On January 15, 7 translators and representatives of the delegation of Armenia were hosted in Plovdiv at the invitation of Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Plovdiv Yeghiazar Uzunyan and the Gevorgyan family. They visited the local St. George Armenian Church and museum, toured Old Plovdiv and had a meeting with the city’s writers.

Among other events were a conference, readings and exhibitions that the Armenian delegation also participated in.
