President Sargsyan receives President of Senate of Kingdom of Netherlands

President Serzh Sargsyan received today President of the Senate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Ankie Broekers-Knol.

The President of the Republic of Armenia welcomed the guest in Armenia and reaffirmed Armenia’s interest in further strengthening of the Armenia-Netherlands friendship and the dynamically growing interstate relations in bilateral and multilateral formats. The President attached great importance to cooperation within international organizations.

Serzh Sargsyan considered the visit of the President of the Senate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Armenia in the year marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries symbolic.

President Sargsyan stated that the Netherlands, being a founding member of the European Union, with its advanced economy, leading role in technological innovations and with social development, sets a good example for Armenia, including from the perspective of implementation of fundamental reforms.

During the conversation, the President of the Republic and the President of the Senate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands touched upon the large-scale reforms that are being implemented during the transition to a new system of state governance following the constitutional amendments in Armenia and compliance of laws with the new realities and requirements. President Sargsyan assured that Armenia will persistently continue the reforms that are being implemented with the support of international partners and friendly countries. The President expressed certainty that the Netherlands can also help Armenia in this period with its centuries-old experience in parliamentary democracy and make the transition to the parliamentary system of governance more effective.

The interlocutors bilaterally attached importance to the role of inter-parliamentary diplomacy in the relations between the states. The relations and cooperation between Armenia and the European Union, the achievements made in those relations over the past years and the future plans were also touched upon during the meeting.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the issues and challenges of the region and the process of settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
