Bust of Hovhannes Baghramyan unveiled in Moscow

On November 10, the bust of Marshal Hovhannes Baghramyan of the USSR was unveiled during a solemn ceremony held at the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow.

As reported the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia to Hayern Aysor, the bust is the gift of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation on the occasion of the 120th birth anniversary of the two-time hero of the former USSR and was granted to the Museum by RA Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan. The solemn ceremony was held in the central hall of the Museum (Pantheon of Soviet Commanders), which commemorates the endeavors of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

Among the participants of the solemn opening ceremony were Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexander Fomin; high-ranking representatives of the Ministries of Defense of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation; Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation Vardan Toghanyan; descendants of the commanders of the Great Patriotic War; veterans; well-known public, scientific and cultural figures of Russia and representatives of Armenian community organizations.

The placement of the bronze bust of Hovhannes Baghramyan is the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Russian Federation. The bust was sculpted by sculptors Misak Melkonyan and Ashot Tadevosyan.

“A museum is a science and memory. It is one of the major instruments for fighting against all measures aimed at reexamining history. It is a great honor for us to donate, on behalf of the Republic of Armenia, the bust of Marshal Hovhannes Baghramyan to the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War. It is hard to overestimate the contributions that Hovhannes Baghramyan made to help achieve victory in the Great Patriotic War. Armenia and the Armenian people were among the countries and nations that combined their efforts and helped save mankind and civilization from Fascism, the greatest evil of the 20th century. This victory was of special significance for Armenia and the Armenian people. Just three decades after the tragic events that took place during the First World War and the Armenian Genocide that took the lives of 1.5 million Armenians, Armenia, one of the republics with the smallest population in the former USSR, showed the most active participation in the Great Patriotic War by mobilizing 600,000 Armenians and sending them to the battlefield,” the Minister of Defense stated.
