Lecturer of the Faculty of Water Research at the Yüzüncü Yıl University of Turkey, Professor Mustafa Akkus has declared that a 3,000-year-old fortress has been discovered at the bottom of Lake Van. The fortress most probably traces back to the era of the Urartu Armenian Kingdom.
According to Anadolu News Agency, the Turkish professor says the fortress sunk because the level of the lake has risen by nearly 150 meters over the past century.
According to Mustafa Akkus, fortunately, the walls of the fortress are well preserved and have not been damaged at all, and this is particularly due to the fact that the water of the lake is salty.
According to the Turkish professor, the lake, which is very enigmatic, may attract the attention of diving fans and archaeologists.
Let us remind that Urartu or the Kingdom of Van existed in the 9th-6th centuries B.C., writes ermenihaber.am.
