Iran to spend $370,000 to restore country’s Armenian churches

To enhance the tourism sector, Iran has allocated $370,000 to restore the Armenian churches included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This is what Deputy Head of the Organization for Cultural Heritage, Crafts and Tourism Mohammad-Hassan Talebian informed, reported Iran Today.
“It is necessary to maintain the look of historic churches. For that, the Organization for Cultural Heritage, Crafts and Tourism is trying to draw the public’s attention to those churches by organizing religious ceremonies and implementing restoration projects,” Talebian said, reported panarmenian.net.
The official’s statement comes after his visit to the St. Thaddeus Armenian Monastery.
The Organization also plans on registering 450 Armenian and 150 Assyrian churches.
In 2008, the St. Thaddeus Monastery was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List under the name “The Armenian Churches of Iran” along with the St. Stepanos Monastery and the Chapel of Dzordzor.
