Renovation of William Saroyan’s house-museum in Fresno has been launched

Construction of the house-museum of William Saroyan in Fresno has been launched. The Intellectual Renaissance Foundation, which has purchased the house-museum, reports that the house is currently under renovation and that the Foundation still needs to receive permission from Fresno City Council to launch interior design and renovation works.

The Foundation will actually try to renovate Saroyan’s house by preserving the former appearance of the house. The William Saroyan House-Museum will most probably open on August 31, 2018, which marks the writer’s 110th birth anniversary.

Last year, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia had told Yerkir.am that the Ministry of Culture and the Intellectual Renaissance Foundation would collaborate to build William Saroyan’s house-museum in Fresno.

According to the press release that the Foundation had issued earlier, the house will be rebuilt as a house-museum that will serve as a cultural center for not only all Armenians, but the whole world. The house-museum will host literary events, festivals and other cultural events.

In May 2014, the house was put up for an auction for $110,000. Saroyan’s house was purchased for $162,000 by an American, after which it was purchased by the Foundation belonging to Arthur Janibekyan.
