Home-Museum of Aram Khachaturian now has an Armenian letter written by the composer
Another rare sample has been added to the samples showcased at the Home-Museum of Aram Khachaturian. After the concert dedicated to the great composer’s 110th birthday, which was held with the participation of the Khachaturian Trio in Liechtenstein, Prague-based screenwriter Hayk Martirosyan donated a letter to the home-museum that Aram Khachaturian had written to Martirosyan’s father, Professor of the Carl University, famous Oriental studies expert Nshan Martirosyan on August 15, 1947.
The following is stated in the letter: “Dear Mr. Martirosyan, please forgive me, I was invited to see Minister Needly. I ask for your forgiveness once again. Call me at 8 in the morning. Aram Khachaturian” “The Khachaturian Trio gave concerts in Prague as part of the events dedicated to the composer’s 110th by the RA Embassy in the Czech Republic with support from the RA Ministry of Culture. During the concert, we performed the works of Khachaturian, Dvorzhak and Babajanyan. After the concert, Hayk Martirosyan surprised us by donating Khachaturian’s letter to the museum’s archive,” Director of the Home-Museum of Aram Khachaturian, pianist of the Khachaturian Trio Armine Grigoryan told ArmenPress.
According to the museum director, the letter is very valuable in that it is written in Armenian with the Classic Armenian orthography.
“Khachaturian doesn’t have many letters in Armenian, and it’s a pleasure to see that this letter was presented to the home-museum. The letter is in the archives. It’s not being showcased at the moment, but it will be showcased during theme-based exhibitions,” Grigoryan added.
The letter costs approximately 5,000-6,000 dollars.
Renowned composer Aram Khachaturian’s home-museum was founded in 1978, and the first exhibition was opened on January 23, 1984.
