Levon Yolyan elected Chairman of Control Chamber

The February 28 session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia began with a moment of silence. February 28th is the day of commemoration of the victims of the massacres organized in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan and the day for the protection of the rights of the Armenians deported from Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan.

Today is also a day of elections at the National Assembly. During the one-hour break, the Members of Parliament will elect the new Chairman of the Control Chamber through a closed and secret voting. Fifteen days ago, Ishkhan Zakaryan submitted an application for resignation, and the Members of Parliament considered the nomination of Levon Yolyan, who was the only candidate for the position. On 29 February 2016, upon the Decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Yolyan was appointed Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. Until then, he had been holding the office of Vice-Chairman of the Control Chamber for twelve years.

The MPs also voted and adopted 11 considered draft laws, including the government’s proposal to stop applying the institute of supplements calculated in the amount of 25 percent and 50 percent for traffic violations on the ground of failure to pay the fines imposed for traffic violations.
